Air Conditioner Systems Birmingham, AL

Buying an air conditioner is a significant step for your family’s budget, but on those hot Birmingham nights when the heat and humidity make sleep impossible, it’s an investment your whole family appreciates.

We recognize that understanding air conditioning systems can be a bit daunting, but it’s important to get it right. At One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating, we offer several types of air conditioner systems that will keep you cool, calm and comfortable in the hottest Birmingham summer.

Central Air Conditioner Systems

Central air conditioning systems, often called forced-air systems, use a network of ducts to distribute conditioned air throughout your home. The same ductwork is used with a furnace for heating. A ducted system can be packaged or split. In a split system, there’s an indoor evaporator coil and an outdoor compressor unit; in a packaged system, the outside unit contains all of the components.

Ductless HVAC Systems

If your home has rooms that never seem to get cool no matter how low you set the thermostat, a ductless mini-split air conditioner or heat pump may be the solution. Ductless HVAC systems have an indoor and outdoor unit connected via electrical, drain and refrigerant lines. The indoor unit dispenses the cooled air directly into the room rather than through ductwork.

A big advantage with ductless AC systems is that you can have multiple indoor units, generally up to four, attached to each outside unit. That means that you can control the temperature in each room based on your needs; one temperature for a computer storage area, another for an upstairs bedroom. Ductless HVAC systems are quick and easy to install, ideal for retrofit projects and room additions, and highly efficient. They also avoid energy loss associated with ducted AC systems.

Heat Pumps

A heat pump operates just like an air conditioner. It pulls heat from inside your home and transfers it to the outside. The difference between the two is that in the winter, the heat pump can be reversed. During the heating season, a heat pump pulls heat from the outside air and transfers it inside your home.

A heat pump can use ductwork to distribute the conditioned air, or it can use a ductless mini-split format, using multiple units throughout your home to dispense conditioned air directly into each room.
